5 MISTAKES ALL BRIDES AND GROOMS MAKE

FALLING TO SET BOUNDARIES

When it comes to weddings, everyone (and we truly mean EVERYONE) has an opinion!

Parents often have strong opinions about your plans, particularly if they are financing the wedding. Therefore, it is essential to establish boundaries early in the planning process and clearly communicate the areas where you welcome input and those that are non-negotiable.

We also recommend that prior to delving into Pinterest, purchasing magazines, or bookmarking blogs, allocate some time to contemplate the kind of wedding day you truly want.

Are you envisioning a formal evening gala or a laid-back daytime even with a more rustic vibe?

Take a moment and compile a list of your preferences. What holds the utmost significance for you? Are you a culinary enthusiast, or is music your passion? How do you and your future husband want this day to look, sound, taste?

Engaging in this sort of preliminary planning will greatly facilitate the process of choosing a venue and establishing a budget.

DON’T FORGET TO EAT ON YOUR WEDING DAY

Your wedding day is bound to be hectic and quite stressful! Most wedding days begin early and end late, with couples enduring 18-20 hours straight. Consequently, many brides (and grooms) end up skipping a meal before the ceremony, either due to forgetfulness or feeling a bit queasy from the inevitable mix of nerves, excitement, and adrenaline! The last thing you want is to faint halfway down the aisle due to low blood sugar!

Trust us, we've seen it happen. We photographed a wedding a couple of years ago, and the groom fainted at the altar from the sun, heat, and an empty stomach.

Quick tip: Right before the ceremony, have some candy for a quick energy boost!

UNREALISTIC WEDDING BUDGETS

One of the most common and potentially disastrous mistakes couples make is being unrealistic with their budgets. Do not simply calculate a "per head" rate, as this does not include many extras such as flowers, the celebrant, the decor, or your accessories, etc. Be realistic about your budget.

Also, remember to consider unforeseen expenses. It often slips the minds of many brides and grooms that, regardless of how comprehensive your checklist may be, unexpected costs are bound to emerge. Take, for instance, the need for last-minute dress alterations for a bridesmaid's attire, which can be quite expensive. Therefore, take a moment to contemplate all potential expenditures in the week leading up to your wedding and factor them into your budget.

Money is not fun to talk about, especially when the only thing you want to think about is your future partner and how awesome of a part you want to throw. But you’ll feel much better after the wedding knowing you didn’t break the bank!

And just know this. We’ve photographed beautiful backyard weddings that cost almost nothing. So you don’t need thousands of dollars to have a good time and celebrate your love.

BAD WEATHER BACK UP PLANS

Here is one aspect you cannot control on your wedding day: the weather. Unfortunately, many couples overlook the importance of preparing for unfavorable weather conditions, which can pose a problem.

If you're planning an outdoor wedding, it's crucial to have alternative arrangements in place in case of an unexpected downpour or a sudden storm.

However, your wedding venue and photographer should assist you with this. In the event of rain on your wedding day, the ceremony can be shifted indoors, and your photographer should have a pre-approved backup indoor location available.

DON’T NEGLECT YOUR PARTNER

Many brides and grooms become overly absorbed in the minutiae of their wedding day, to the point where they lose sight of the true purpose: uniting with the person they want to spend their lives with.

The average engagement lasts around 20.4 months, which means you'll have a long time to plan your wedding! However, it's crucial not to neglect your partner during this period, particularly on your special day.

Take moments to pause, breathe, and fully appreciate the ambiance and exhilaration that come with orchestrating one of the happiest days of your life!
